I used to go to school and teach in Dobbs, so I know the river towns pretty well. Happy to help.

Additionally, the Food Emporium (or A&P) in Hastings usually has a good selection, too. More traditional stuff, but you occasionally find some interesting items.

Only been in Sleepy Hollow for 3 years (formerly Mt Vernon). I really only explored the supermarkets in the immediate area and their selections suck. I will def check out the place in Ardsley though as it is not far. Especially when headed down to my gf's parents' place, we go down the Saw Mill anyway so it would be right on the way.

You've lived in SH 3 years and you don't know where the best liquor store is? For shame.

As far as Wine/liquor, the Wine Warehouse on rt 119 in White Plains is the best. As far as beer, most places in the immediate area suck. But I can get Sam Adams Boston Lager and the Seasonals which is usually good enough to keep me from going insane. But I'd love to have a better selection if possible. I will definitely be checking out the DeCiccos that Metal_Ralph mentioned at some point though. I'm hoping to be moving soon and there are a few good beer distributors in the area where I am hoping to move. But at this rate, God only knows when/if I'll move.

Is it bad that I had 7 beers and didn't feel a buzz until I started drinking Makers Mark afterwords? Geez, I guess I'm as bad as Greg! biggrin.gif

I'm a big fan of the Captain. Is the 100 Proof worth it? I've only had the normal 70 proof.

That looks like Circus Spirits in Middletown. I can see the Fosters next to the Molson XXX in the background and the Killian's next to the Guinness 250 too. I hate that damn store. They're such a bunch of douchebags.

But they have everything. And they are cheaper than some of the other stores around here.

Yeah they do. But the place is run by dickbags.

My new favorite beer is Harp.

Post Road Pumpkin Ale is also quite delicious - I love the autumn brews.

Sounds good. I've only had the Pale Ale and the Porter. Bother are good.

And of course you should be posting in here, it's what college is all about!

Yes it is. If you like that one, try the Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale and/or Dogfish Head Punkin Ale. Both are dynamite but beware! The Dogfish Head packs quite a punch at ~9% ABV.

I've recently discovered this bourbon called Noah's Mill, which for whatever reason is popular up here in Rye/Port Chester liquor stores. Got a nice bite if you like it neat, which I do, or smooths out a little when you drop an ice cube in it, which I also like.

Good show. emot-golfclap.gif

"Light Beer Brewed With Lawn Clippings and Sour Patch Kids"

That's pretty close. I tried it on Thursday. One of my accounts had a sample pack and cracked one(HAR!) so they let me try it. It tastes like Blue Moon Light. BLECH! AB is hurting right now so they're just throwing shit on the wall and hoping something will stick. The latest is supposed to be Bud Light 55 to counter the success of MGD 64.

Beta house was lame D. They ran out of beer before I got there, ZBT was the shit though.

I wanted to get some Sessions from the Full Sail Brewery, which is this great brand I sampled out in Portland a few months ago. I called the huge beer distributor across the street from me, and they said they had it, but when I went over there they looked at me like I was crazy. I kept saying, "but, who was the guy that just told me on the phone that you had it?" The girl behind the counter just shrugged, and kept playing with her iPhone. I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone.

Anyway, the upside is that I discovered that they carry a bunch of Abita brands, which is a New Orleans staple. To think, I've lived across the street from this place for three and a half years, and never knew! I brought home a six each of the Pecan Harvest Ale (http://abita.com/brews/pecan.php), which is an amber, and the Golden (http://abita.com/brews/golden.php), which is a lighter lager. As I've said before, I'm more of a fan of lagers and pilsners than others, so I liked the Golden a lot. It was cloudier than most other American-style lagers, which I gather has to do with the malt they use. The Pecan was good, nothing too amazing. Sometimes ambers give me a headache, but I've usually been able to put a lot of Abita away. My brother-in-law swears by the strawberry Abita ale, but that's really not my thing.

This is my favorite time of year for microbrews. There's always a nice Pumpkin Ale out there to try. Last couple of years I've been picking up Boston Post Road Pumpkin Ale . It's excellent . Last yr I tried Shipyard Pumpkin Head Ale and I like that even better.I went to a party Friday afternoon after school and was just going to bring some PBR .Spotted the Pumpkin Head in the cooler and grabbed that. Man!!!! Sitting outside on a beautiful fall day w/ a bunch of educators havinga nice fall brew was the best. Wait it gets better! Yesterday my wife and I decided to walk down the end of the street and have a pizza at The Milltown Tavern. Great pizza and food and always a great selection of microbrews on tap. I recalled that last yr they had the Shipyard Pumpkin Head on tap, so I was happy to see they did this yr. So they bring us each a pint .The rim of the glass was coated w/ a cinnamon/sugar mix! THIS IS JUST UNBELEIVABLY GOOOOOOD! The company recommends serving it this way. I don't know if you guys /gals get Shipyard brews out where you are but if you find a Pumpkinhead at a local tavern ask for one. I'm curious as to whether all the bars do this when serving it.

I've had the Shipyard Pumpkin before but I've never heard of the bartender adding Cinnamon Toast Crunch to the rim. I don't think I'd be a fan of that actually. It seems like it would take too much away from the actual beer; like when those idiots tell you to add an orange to your Hefeweizen. Fuck that noise. I want to TASTE the beer, not the citrus. That being said, the Pumpkin Head is a dynamite brew. Outside of a couple Oktoberfests, I haven't picked up any of the fall specialties yet. I'll have to make an unscheduled stop after work tomorrow.

I can't speak for you but it actually added to the beer. Try it once if you find a bar that carries it. I am curious to see if other bars do this on the company's recommendation, or try it out at home .

Picked up a sixer of Guinness 250 - will report later.

Saw a bunch of different pumpkin ales - I was actually looking for Post Road when I went into the store, but no dice. From this list, which would you guys suggest?

Shipyard
Dogfish Head
Saranac
Smuttynose

There were a couple of others, too, but I've already forgotten which ones.
Bleedin-Blue
All four. They're all damn good. Grab Old Post from Brooklyn too. That one has an almost pumpkin pie-ish flavor to it.

The Shipyard Pumpkinhead is excellent.I've seen the Dogfish Head but it comes in a 4 pk.for the same price as a six pk. Anybody tried this one? I'm not buying it unless it's very good.
