So, wait, a ball that hits the ground and then bounces up and hits the batter is considered a HBP. I've never seen that before.

QUOTE
A pitched ball that hits the batter after bouncing is not a dead ball. Some people believe that once a pitched ball has hit the dirt and then hits the batter, it is a dead ball and should be called a ball. This is incorrect and the batter should be awarded first base.

You really didn't know that? Shit, I've seen Vlad Guerrero actually hit balls that had bounced in the dirt for base hits.

I've never seen it before, and I've watched a lot of baseball.
I know that if you don't get out of the way you won't get first base, but not the part about a bounced ball.

Oct 22 2010, 08:47 PM
See, I don't think it's a dead ball. I just thought to be hit by a pitch it has to hit you while it's being pitched. Not after it bounces on the ground. Hence why the ruling of it being a wild pitch seemed correct to me.

They're not the Flyers, so I don't give a fuck. I've just never thought of the Braves as rivals to the Phillies, I'm a Ravens fan, and I don't really care much about basketball. So.

You're a Braves fan? Not to sound like a total dick but why? I'm curious.
(This is all around when I'm 9 or 10) I really disliked the Mets and Yankees fans I knew. I didn't really have a team and both sides' fans nagged me about how awesome their team was, and mostly I wished they all would die. I didn't want to be a fan of their teams. They all seemed really slobbery. The Braves were kind of fun to follow being "West" at the time, and they had a guy named Ryan Klesko. I just REALLY liked that name. Easily my favorite Brave as a kid.
I've picked a decent number of teams to be a fan of over names. I actually was an Islanders fan til I was 5, when they traded Hrudey, who was my favorite player with his awesome name. The Rangers had dynamo names like Sandstrom and Granato so they were pretty easy for me to like, and I just never looked back. Seriously, the trading of Hrudey when I was little is the reason you're talking to a Rangers fan today.

I just think that it dilutes the playoffs when you add another wild card. There would be no fun divisional races ever again. And this is coming from the girl whose team missed the playoffs completely.
Baseball isn't a sport where the dominate team wins every single time. Is all of this stemming from a Giants-Rangers World Series? Why? I hate Bud Selig.

No, this has been in discussion for a long time. Selig was on ESPN radio before the playoffs discussing this, and he presents it petty well.
He also brings up a fair point that baseball has the lowest percentage of teams that make the playoffs, and even with adding teams they'd still be at the bottom of that, I think tying only football.

That's what I thought too untill I realized that technically doesn't add a series. When they say add a series, I don't think they mean have another team playing, I think they mean they want it to play out like the NHL.
3 series before the Championship instead of 2.
You can't add just 1 team to the mix. The first place team would have to have a bye for two series not one. If 1 has a bye and 2 plays 5 and 3 plays 4, who plays the next round? You have 3 teams left.
