You are correct, he is. That was just a little editorial from the author. Many feel that Pedroia will be captain when Varitek dies retires.

It may be time to pre-emptively taze the whole city. So how long before a fan is killed on live TV by this allegedly non-lethal weapon?

Dunno, but if it's a fan of another team, you can bet the Phillies fans will cheer it.

They'd cheer if it was a fan of their own team.

I'm not sure if it will stay up, and I'm not smart enough to do screen captures, but if you go here right now, there's a hilarious series of pictures at the bottom of the screen: two of the picture of the dumbass that got tasered followed by a picture of a dog that got brought back to life from a fire looking on as if to say "I lick my own genitals and occasionally eat my own poop, but you people are stupid."

What is that guy, I think the pitcher, doing on the right? Is he doing a ballerina half leap?

Almost as funny as Papelbon running out of the dugout throwing his hat at the out call at second base against the Mets. wink.gif

Doucebag Dallas Braden has a perfect game through 8 innings. A PERFECT GAME. PERFECTO. POSSIBLY 27 UP 27 DOWN. NO-NO.

The fact that Yankee fans hate this guy so much and that he did this in the midst of a feud with a guy who almost every Yankee fan hated until last year and accused him of not being a "true Yankee" makes this decision so so easy.

edit: all Yankee hate aside, the guys an idiot, but tee hee.

Yeah, that was nice. And on Mother's Day, too.

Oh, and has anyone ever heard of this before? Is running across the mound really something that means you're violating some code? I think A-Rod is large douche, but was it really worthy of all this hubbub? I can't believe I'm almost defending A-Rod.

Very true, but I never heard of this retarded one. And I don't think I've ever seen a pitcher freak out about it.

Me either, but who knows? I've never actually seen a player run across the mound either. I think this is what happens when you tell players that there are imaginary rules and they're very important. Any coach can tell their players whatever.

Yeah but let's pretend that I don't hate the Yankees for a second. Let's pretend someone on the Royals just did this to someone on the Pirates.

I have to ask myself, why in all my years of watching baseball can I not recall a player running across the diamond to go back from third to first?

I think all parties involved can at least come to the conclusion that it was kind of weird to watch A-Rod not only run across the diamond, but to run over the mound as well.

edit: and this isn't a defense of Braden either. He acted/ is acting like a baby regardless of the "rule" but it does make you think that maybe their is some kind of unwritten rule

I have never see a player run across the mound to get back to first but have seen players run behind the mound through the diamond back to first.

I think its kind of one of those things you just don't do. The mound is the pitchers space, and the only time players go on it is to talk to him about strategy and to calm him down. In the AL the pitchers only have the mound as they don't bat or subsequently get on base (except in interleague contests I know), so I can see why they value their space more than the players.

Also, I know (especially Oliver Perez) don't step on the dirt on the first or third base lines going to and from the dugout. Could be superstition, or some unwritten rule.

It's superstition and it's not the dirt he's avoiding it's the line.

Funny story about that, I got to play on the field before games at Shea and they are absolutely crazy about that line. They have a representative from the team standing there pointing out the line to assure absolutely no one steps on it before the game.

edit: i realize I made that sound superstitious, it's not, it's because the ground crew/mlb doesn't want the line stepped on before play starts.

One of my friends, also a Braves fan, sent me an email about this, which I don't get. He seems to think because Braves fans hated him, Mets fans have to hate him now. But he's batting seventh. It's not like we think "OK, he needs to be the center of the universe." We've got guys like Bay and Wright who are supposed to be those guys (and Beltran when he comes back). And then he brought up the salary, which I think shows the big difference. New York baseball fans just sort of shrug at $5 million for what we get (especially since we have Perez on the roster). Braves fans think it's a big deal.

You can love him or hate him. I think he's a slug. And for shrugging at $5M, welcome to being a top 5 payroll team where you don't have to give a crap about a $5M deadweight. Personally, I'd be nuts that my GM is that stupid, but hey, whatever.

The process is very difficult, relationships that are formed are very strong, but at the end of the day we've got to make decisions that are best for our baseball team and our organization long-term and that's the conclusion that we made."

Fuck you Dayton, and fuck your process.

Well, like I pointed out to my friend, I shrug at Frenchie's $5 million because of Perez's contract. There are far worse contracts on the Mets than what Frenchie is earning. Some would say Castillo's contact is awful too. I mean, Perez is awful, and the Mets aren't going to be able to move him. So that's part of why I shrug. I don't discount that the Mets are a big market team and that plays into it, but his contract is not bad in comparison.

I don't love Frenchie but I don't hate him. Well, I love his cannon of an arm. That I'll concede. But otherwise...*shrugs* he's Frenchie. I can understand why Braves fans don't like him because he had a ton of expectations on him. But we don't really have a reason to hate him. He's not one of our big bats, like I said. I never thought he'd stay on his blistering early season pace, but maybe less expectations will help him in the long haul. We'll see.
leedsy99

Something tells me that someday Dayton Moore will look in a closet and see Trey Hillman's uniform hanging and just start to inconsolably weep.*
