The horse that finishes the Derby last goes straight from Churchill Downs to Yum! for processing. I, for one, am excited about the prospect of a Taco Bell Backtalk Burrito or the Dean's Kitten Double Down!

Ahhh, Derby Day, the only day of the year you can wear a big, goofy hat and not be considered a total freak.
Saturday is gonna be fun times in Louisville. I might get around to watching the race.

I think that I'd just wear the cap that goes with my academic regalia - it's like I have a black velvet throw pillow on my head. Fucking
classy.

You guys laugh, but you may as well be picking horses by cool-sounding names. The Derby is virtually impossible to handicap these days, with the 20-horse fields, especially when there is no beast in the race like Big Brown a few years back. Baffert is doing all he can to play down the favorite status for Lookin' at Lucky.
EDIT: Just saw that Endorsement got scratched the other day, which is kind of a bummer. Would have been nice to see a female trainer with a decent favorite in the race.

Nope! Devil May Care is the horsie! The jockey is 5 pounds lighter than the rest of the field. STREAMLINED! That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Hell, if all goes well, I'll be spending Saturday afternoon in one of the OTB's in the city.

There's a new off-track betting place in town called - *snort* - Winners. It's pretty apropos when you see the denizens of this place seeking shelter from sunlight.

OK, bets are up in the Bookie. The number in parentheses next to the horsie's name is the post position. Don't bet "none," that is just a place holder.

Exacta and triple payouts are calculated on a rolling basis determined by what is in the betting pool, which means I would have to do some serious number crunching to figure them out. Dicks.

Brutal day so far, the track is going to be an absolute mess. It's anyone's race.
I like Super Saver, good post and good jockey (Borel), and also Paddy O'Prado, Devil May Care, and Awesome Act, though I can't really explain why. I'll probably do some sort of exacta box with those horses, and maybe Luck as well.
Some Mudders' Milk and Ballad of Jayne CD to go, please.

Mike: How'd you do? Did you bet?
I called the winner earlier in this thread! Why isn't everyone telling me how awesome I am?!? AAAAND, I missed calling the exacta by about a head!
Since I have no heart though, I didn't bet. I was unsure about it earlier in the day, and then wasn't near a window later on to get it in. I would have put $10 or maybe $20 on Super Saver, but I probably would have about broken even because I would also have put down some crazy $10 exacta box with 6 horses. I would have been pretty upset if I had that 4-10 exacta for $10, only to see Paddy O'Prado get nudged out for second like that.
Borel is the man. What a great race. Looking at Lucky will be a good play if he runs in Baltimore. He had a hard time getting out, then got absolutely hammered by another horse in the backstretch, and still managed to finish about 6th.
